STAGE 27
About Us & Latest News
STAGE27
is a self financed Amateur Dramatics Theatre Company consisting of seasoned
veterans of the amateur circuit and enthusiastic beginners.
The Company started life in the mid-fifties as the Tracom Repertory Company
- the name being an incorporation of tragedy and comedy, reflecting the Company's
original aim to alternate Productions between two different theatrical styles.
The Company changed it's name in the Sixties as a tribute in memory of their
then producer Stanley Evans. More recently the Company changed it's name again
to achieve a more modernised stature whilst keeping the original Stanley Theatre
initials, STAGE27 (Stanley Theatre, Acocks Green Entertainers).
From it's foundation, the Company staged regular Productions at the former Birmingham
Theatre Centre in Islington Row. When Birmingham’s famous Old Repertory
Theatre opened it's doors to Amateur Groups in September 1972, the Stanley’s
gained the distinction of being the first Amateur Society to perform with their
Production of Noel Cowards’ “Present Laughter”. The Company
has gone on to perform many Productions in Theatres and Festivals around the
country, attracting members from all walks of life along the way. Members of
Stage 27 have also taken part in filming for television.
Our most recent achievement was winning the BFAME first round of the All England
Theatre Festival at the Dovehouse Theatre in February 2008. STAGE27 went on
to perform at the Quarter-Finals at Much Wenlock, Shopshire where we successfully
passed through to the Semi-Finals in Evesham in May 2008, achieving 3rd place.
We won the Adult One Act Winner Award and the AETF Birmingham Stage One Winner
Award during this time and are very proud of this achievement. The Group currently
has approximately twenty members, five of whom recently took part in a Lord
Of The Rings Dramatisation as part of Shire
Productions at The
Tolkien Weekend at Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog on 16th & 17th May
2009, performing the parts of Galadriel, Frodo, Sam, Saramon and Narrator. Our
most recent achievement was our performance of Paul
Thain's Black Widow, at The
Old Rep Theatre on 2nd,3rd & 4th July 2009.
Stage27 meets every Wednesday at 8pm for rehearsals at Acocks Green Methodist
Church and is always on the look
out for new talent! Please see the 'Join Us' section of the website for information
