STAGE27
STAGE27 is a self financed Amateur Theatre Company
consisting of seasoned veterans of the amateur circuit and enthusiastic beginners.
The group started life in the mid fifties as the Tracom Repertory Company, the
name being amalgam of tragedy and comedy, reflecting their members’ original
aim to alternate productions between two different theatrical styles.
The company changed its name in the Sixties as a tribute in memory of their
then producer Stanley Evans. More recently the group changed its name to achieve
a modernised stature keeping the original Stanley Theatre initials, STAGE27
(Stanley Theatre, Acocks Green Entertainers).
Since its foundation, the group staged regular productions at the former Birmingham
Theatre Centre in Islington Row. When Birmingham’s famous Old Repertory
Theatre opened it’s doors to Amateur Groups in September 1972, the Stanley’s
gained the distinction to be the first Amateur Society to perform with their
production of Noel Cowards’ “Present Laughter”. The group
has gone on to perform many productions in Theatres and Festivals around the
country, attracting members from walks of life along the way.
The group meets every Wednesday at 8pm for rehearsals at Acocks Green Methodist
Church and is always on the look out for new talent!
